AL-6XN® - Rolled Alloys, Inc.

AL-6XN ® alloy (UNS N08367) is a low carbon, high purity, nitrogen-bearing "super-austenitic" stainless alloy. The AL-6XN alloy was designed to be a seawater resistant material and has since been demonstrated to be resistant to a broad range of very corrosive environments. The high strength and corrosion resistance of the AL6XN alloy make it a Austenitic Stainless Steels - ASM International1. Austenitic stainless steels are less resistant to cyclic oxidation than are ferritic grades because their greater thermal expansion co-efficient tends to cause the protective oxide coating to spall. 2. They can experience stress corrosion crack-ing (SCC) if used in an environment to which they have insufficient corrosion resistance. 3.

The coefficient of thermal expansion is used to determine the rate at which a material expands as a function of temperature. CTE is used for design purposes to determine if failure by thermal stress may occur. Understanding the relative expansion/contraction characteristics of materials is important for application success. Coefficients of Linear Thermal ExpansionRelated Topics . Stainless steels are iron based alloys containing at least 10.5% Chromium. They achieve their stainless characteristics through the formation of an invisible and adherent Chromium rich oxide film. Alloy 347 is a general purpose austenitic stainless steel with a face centered cubic structure.
